I have had Mirena in for about 2.5 years now (about 6 weeks after my daughter was born). I never really bled much after insertion and periods have been really light usually just brown discharge. However, last week I started full on bleeding like a regular period with minor cramping. It wasn't super heavy just somewhat. Still bleeding but lightly. So for pretty much the first time I decided to check my strings... As far as my pointer finger could reach I felt the strings AND the hard plastic of the mirena. Could my IUD be partially expelled down into my cervix?? Or is that normal to feel the plastic part?? Am I still somewhat protected if it is in my cervix and not in the uterus anymore? I am assuming it is partially expelled and that is why I experienced the sudden bleeding after all this time. I was going to try to pull it out but it wouldn't come out plus I read that trying to remove yourself could be dangerous so I left it alone. Haven't had sex since right before the bleeding so I'm not sure if my bf can feel the IUD now or not. Took a HPT just to be safe since I have no idea when it might've slipped but was neg. Has anyone ever had a similar experience?? What was the outcome??
