Can some people who have been on it or are on it tell me if you have had any problems with it or if you have got pregnant on it.

I was recently on the pill but I would always forget to take the pill so about 5 months ago I stopped it all together because I was not having intercourse with anyone so I figured what was the point of being on it but I started thinking my doctor takes forever to get an appointment with for instance I made an appointment back in June and she can not see me till October, that is how backed up she is and I am not sure but I think I have to have an appointment with her to get a prescription and I am pretty sure it is her who gives me the shot if I want it.

I just want to make sure that with the shot nothing bad is going to happen like one of my friends was telling me it can cause a hump on your back as you get up in age

There was a topic about this just recently - hopefully you can find it. I think it was called Bad Birth Control?

I urge you to reconsider! The Depo Provera injection is dangerous stuff! Not only does it do a lot of damage to your reproductive system, but it also has serious affects on bone density - leading to osteoporosis. It carries all the usual side effects of oral contraceptive pills, except with greater severity, and the long term effects persist much longer.

It is a very convenient option, but there is a high price to pay for convenience. Your health is NOT worth the convenience!

My first daughter was concieved while on Depo. My Dr. was shocked Because I was getting all my shots a week earlier than the shot wears off. I was on it for a year. Also, after 2 years of needle use it begins to deteriate your bone mass. I have the same proble as you with remembering to take the pill but I have been on both the needle and the patch and got pregnant on both. I went back to the pills because it seems to be the most effective.

I've not used Depo, so I can't give advise either way. I have an IUD and I love it. Don't have to worry about taking a pill every day or changing a patch. It's just as effective as sterilization yet you can get it taken out when ever you wanna start TTC (if you want to). Just wanted you to know!!

I wrote this on the other thread, but I will repost it here:

DONT DO IT!!!
I was put on it when it first hit the market, I gained a tremendous amount of weight, got a blot clot and it stopped my period for 5 years after I stopped taking it. I have signed things asking for it to be taken off the market.
After 5 years of no period I was told I couldnt have any babies, when I was able to become pregnant before the drug. Thankfully that turned out not to be true, but I was lucky. I belong to a depo support group and there are tons of woman who were able to become pg before depo and now cant, and may never be able too.
Its a horrible drug with so many seriuos side affects. The doc that put me on depo, will NO LONGER prescribe it. There are so many doc that still do. I think it should be pulled off the market. I have seen and experienced the horrible effects first hand.

I also had become pregnant about 3yrs after stopping the drug. I made it to 12wks and had a miscarriage. They blamed it on the drug.

I am not trying to push my opintion on you or anyone else, but I dont want any woman to have to experience any of these things if they dont need too.

I think Depo is just like any other form of birth control: It just depends on the person. I have been on Depo for 9 years and I have never had any negative side effects. Sure, I gained a little weight in my early 20's, but I can definately attribute that to my lack of exercise and bad eating habits. I rarely have had my period over the years, and I had a bone density scan last year and the doctor said that my density was actually above average for my age. She also said that my blood work came back excellent. Over the past few years, I try to consistantly eat healthly and exercise regularly, so I think that contributed with my good experience.

The only negative that I may experience with Depo is the time it takes to conceive. My last shot was June 8th and time will only tell how long it will take for us! I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for all the responces, I also posted on another site about this and more then half the responces were negative so I guess I am just going to have to remember to take BC pills everyday.

THIS REALLY STINKS!

I just switched to Depo from the pill because with my bi-polar medications the pill's effectiveness is decreased drastically, and since I'm a smoker I didn't want to try the patch. It sucks, but right now I really don't want to get pregnant and Depo was my only option...
