Okay I've had my mirena IUD since January and I had a three gestational sacs that never developed in June. I now have morning sickness again and I'm wondering if I'm pg again? I've been on antibiotics twice in the last month and a half and I'm wondering if it affects the effectiveness of the IUD the way they do birth control pills. What do you think?

Well, the first action of the Mirena is to suppress ovulation (this is the function that antibiotics affect), and the second is to ensure that the lining of your uterus is so thin that it can't (or shouldn't) allow implantation if conception does occur.

So, given the antibiotic use - there's a greater chance that ovulation wasn't suppressed. However, you probably don't need to worry that the pregnancy will survive, that's the whole point of the IUD.

Get checked though! You don't want to be messing around with an ectopic pregnancy or something like that!

I agree with Shawna. The IUD will still help the fertilized egg not implant.

If you think that your pregnant, then test. It might help ease your mind some.

and don't forget that the Mirena IUD has a hormone in it as well.
