I did my first official trail run today. The local park has three loops. I did the middle one which is 1.75 miles long. However, I'm counting it as 2 miles today because I missed a turn and ended up running through a corn field and up to a farm house before I realized I missed a turn! It was really cool though. I ran up on a deer and was within arms length of it before it broke and ran. I scared a good few groundhogs and a hawk was following me and doing that funny scream they do all the way through the big field. Running in the woods was really nice though because it was shady most of the time and, besides a few cuts and scrapes from brush, the scenery was great!

Has anyone else tried trail running? What was your experience with it?

I love trail running- we have tons around here & the mountains (small ones haha). It was my first 'thing'... it rocks!! I love the smell in the woods & I love to listen to my music & just go, jumping over little logs & ducking under tree branches etc...... easy on my joints & knees too... problem here is.... there have been a few rapes & murders, women taken from trails so I no longer feel safe going on my own. I could go with friends ... but it's not the same experience for me. I guess it's the only option so will have to be happy with it!

I went a lot when I lived in North Carolina. I actually did it accidentally the first time. I took my dogs hiking and ended up being drug behind them after every squirrel and bird and lizard and anything else they saw that they could chase. I had so much fun that I took them every week after that and we just ran and barked at everything.

I have never done it myself, but my ds did cross country and ran in all kinds of strange places. It sounds like fun.
