Elliptical - backwards or forwards?

I always go forwards on it, but I saw someone today going backwards. Is there a difference in muscle groups worked? Is there a reason to go backwards? Or does it not really matter? Tonya, or anyone else know the answer?

Yeah, it focuses on the hamstrings more if you go backwards. But the elliptical is primarily cardio and that is being worked either way. When I use an elliptical, I mix it up and do some of each direction just for fighting the boredom factor.
