If you had to choose between a treadmill (probably used and spacesaver) or a gym membership, which would you choose? I think the treadmill would be less expensive in the long run, but the gym offers other machines including weight machines. If I had a treadmill, I could use it whenever even if the kids were home. However, like I said, the gym has more to offer, but I would have to make time to go. So, what do you think?

i'd get a VERY GOOD treadmill.i'd make sure i am not getting one that sucks or has crappy features as that would be one of my biggest home gym purchases.

Hmm, that's a tough one. Here's what I would do. I'd see if you can get a trial membership to the gym. Try it out for as long as you can and see if you like it. See if you can make it work into your schedule and if you think you'll stick to going there. You can probably figure out real quickly whether it's going to be an inconvenience and difficult for you. If you do a trial then you can see whether the gym would be the better choice and you won't be out any money so if it doesn't work well for you then you can still get the treadmill.

I would get the treadmill if I had the space in my home. My house is a 890 sq. ft 2-bedroom with no basement. I know I can't make myself get a gym membership. Maybe after I have #2 when I am trying to lose any extra weight then, or if we are able to move to a bigger place then the treadmill or even an exercise bike. It is a goal we have to move to a bigger house sometime after or (if a miracle happens somehow and my DH gets a job that pays what he makes now somewhere else) even before we have another baby.

I do have an exercise bike already that I used today actually, but I'd like something else if we can afford it. I will see if I can get a trial at the gym though. That way I can try it out anyway. Luckily, we do have a rec room in the basement where things could fit if need be.

I would take the membership! Then you will have weights, treadmill, probably a pool and hot tub... Some gyms/YMCAs have free babysitting with your membership too!

I would def do the membership. I have one now. I go to lady of america. Its starts at $9.99 but thats only for the machines. I pay $29.99 and that includes the classes, daycare, steam room and hydromassager. Its a small gym and its women only. I love it there and all the pple that work there know you personally. i like that. If I had a treadmill at home I probably wouldnt use it. I had an elliptical and I used it no lie for a wk and I was done!

Already made that decision... A gym membership. I like getting out of the house and the fact that a gym membership = group exercise classes and more equipment to do strength training and cardio. I'd rather row anyway.

Gym membership.. I have one and I love it. You have all sorts of machines to choose from. The gym that I go to also has a pool, hot tub, sauna, free child care, they offer tons of exercise classes too. In the long run it does cost more but I think it's well worth it as long as you're actually going to use it!

I'd take the treadmill and set it up in my living room. That way when I wanted to watch TV I could walk or jog at the same time. The nearest gym is 45 minutes away and doesn't provide any kind of day care and mine and DH's schedules don't mesh anymore so he wouldn't be able to watch Leo while I went.
