I'm contemplating getting a heart rate monitor to track my calories burnt during exercise. I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I don't want a cheap one that is going to quit working on me. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a polar F11 Heartrate monitor and I love it but I don't think they sell it any more. Here is the new one a Polar FT7 Polar FT7 Women's Heart Rate Monitor w/ H1 Transmitter (Newest Version) I think it is basically the same thing that I have. I have had several heart rate monitors by Polar and they have all been great. you can't go wrong with one of theirs.

Thanks Melissa! I did some searching on MFP's forums this weekend and lots of people there seem to really like the Polar monitors as well. Seemed like a lot of them had the Polar FT4.

I had one I bought at walmart. (Did you notice the past tense? LOL!) It wasn't the cheapest, it was the next step up. It worked great for a long time until I had to change the battery in the strap, and then it never worked again. And then the kids borrowed the watch and that was never seen again. It's probably under the bathroom sink or up in the garage loft or something weird like that, LOL.

So don't get that one.

I'm thinking pretty heavily about getting a polar monitor....my problem now is I don't know what size chest strap to get. When I measure where it would go, I measure 30 inches. On most sites the straps available are med/XL 30-45 inches or XS/Small 20-30 inches. On one other site the measurements are med/XL 27-60 inches and XS/Small 21-38 inches. I don't think my measurement will go down much, if at all so not sure which way to go. I don't want the strap to be too loose and not work but at the same time I don't want the strap to be too tight and uncomfortable. Not sure what to do.....

Well bra size I wear a 32 and I always got the medium/XL. The strap is pretty easy to adjust to fit you smaller and I never had any problems with it. I do know at heartratemonitorsusa.com they have a great return policy so if you buy one and the strap is too big or too small you should be able to easily exchange it.
