I drink EAS Lean 15 protein drinks and I use their protein bars too. I sometimes buy a different brand of protein bars. I think the protein drinks are really helping me too. I try to have one after every workout. I don't always drink one after my cardio workouts (I'm trying to) but I always have one after my strength training and it seems to help me feel better faster and I think it helps with muscle recovery. It may be in my head but I really feel like it is helping.

i used to before being pregnant and nursing. i would make my own soy or whey protein shakes to drink after workouts since i would do really long ones. i have upped my protein now but i'm not comfortable using powdered protein supplements while i'm still nursing.

Just curious. Is there something in protein shakes that isn't good for babies or can it affect your supply? I'm just curious why you aren't comfortable.

a lot of them have warnings about taking them while nursing or breastfeeding, but i haven't talked to a dr about this. i guess i could ask his pediatrician next visit. i'm vegetarian and i've always been really careful about getting my protein amounts through my foods anyway..i was drinking the shakes before pregnancy because i was doing strength training and trying to build more muscle.

I forgot you were a vegetarian. I was a vegetarian for 10 years. Sometimes I miss it. I have never really paid attention to the label but I do remember one of my bars said that it could cause diarrhea or have a laxative effect so maybe that's why they don't recommend nursing moms eat them.

Right now I am taking my prenatal with DHA, vitamin D3, and a tsp of mineral clay in the a.m. Throughout the day I drink an infusion of herbs good for pregnancy and hypertension. Since it's winter I also pop another D. At bedtime I take calcium/mag/zinc. I personally don't use any other types of nutritional supplements like bars or shakes, I just have been careful to get protein with every meal and snack.

I take a multi vitamin, a zinc, osteo biflex, echinnacea, and a calcium supplement but that is it. No bars or powders here.

I do not do protein shakes or protein bars, both make my blood sugar go SKY HIGH regardless of the amount of sugar/carbs are in them. Not sure WHAT is in them that causes the issue, but it was awful, so that was short lived.

I do take a multi-vitamin daily as well as fish oil daily, but that is it. Otherwise, I eat real food that is fresh and homemade and stay away from the crap.
