I'm still trying to figure out how many calories I should be eating and what I should be doing to gain muscle. I keep hearing that I should probably decrease or eliminate my cardio if I want to gain muscle but I just don't get it. I want to be fit and I feel like cardio is important for your overall fitness. I don't want to give it up.

I haven't gained any weight this week. LOL. I've upped my calories last week and as far as I can tell it didn't really do a whole lot. I really don't know what I'm doing. I think this week I'm going to try to make a meal plan so that I can get in the calories I need and add some things like nuts or avacados to up my calories. It would be easy if I just wanted to eat some extra cookies or something. LOL.

Try making some avocado/nut cookies. Not helpful, I know.

Have you figured your Basal Metabolic Rate? If you go to this Sticky:
http://www.justmommies.com/forums/f3...out-cards.html (FYI: Measurements, Body Fat, Workout Cards)
Tonya had posted detailed information on how to do measurements and figure body fat percentage, and then how to figure your basic caloric needs. I think I'm remembering you said you do not track calories, but you might find it helpful to do so for a while. Long enough to figure out exactly how much you are in deficit and which foods you add will be most helpful for your goals.
SpazTaz likes this.

Thanks. I looked at her sticky earlier today and it really confused me. I had some girls on another site help me figure out an idea of how many calories I should be eating, so I think I'm feeling a little better about that. And I stepped on the scale today and was up a lb. LOL. So I think that's good but it's weird because gaining weight just doesn't really feel good to me. I'm still anxious about it but I think I'm doing the right thing for my goals.

have you added in protein shakes? I know that they will help increase muscle mass plus give you the extra calories that you are needing. I think you are suppose to try to have a protein shake after a good strength training workout.

Yep, I usually have two shakes a day now. One with my breakfast because I just can't eat much in the mornings and then I have one after my workout.
