How are you supposed to do these? How many should you do?

I did 3 last night after my workout. One plank and two side planks - the side planks are really hard. I can see how these will help my abs and I'd like to start doing them but I'm not totally sure what I'm doing. How many do you do and how long do you hold them? Should you aim for trying to increase the duration of your planks or just how many you do? I'd really like to hear more from the plank ladies.

there are quite a few ways to do them....and I would start easy like with 10 seconds and work your way up every day adding 5 seconds to your session..or start at 20 or whatever you feel comfortable with

Plank Variations

I do the straight arm planks

I am up to a minute and 50 seconds now

Okay well I did them last night and held them for 60 seconds. It was hard! I did one regular plank and one side plank on each side for 60 seconds. The images aren't loading on the link you sent me. I wasn't sure if I should be doing more and if so how many more.

That is also the site I used to find variations of planks.

Right now I just do as many as I feel like. I need to do better about doing them.

I'm up to 90 seconds on straight arm planks, and 60 seconds on side planks, they are tough! I have a hard time doing more than a couple of them at a time though. The best way that I've found for me to get them in is by working them into a mini circuit.

I like them in mini-circuits, and I've gotten up to 65 seconds and that is TOUGH! I mix it up with ones with straight arms, or on my elbows.

You can also do planks on your elbows for variety. I like to hold a plank for about 30 seconds then do a push up then hold the plank again for about 30 seconds. I try to do this several times.

I might have to give the plank/push up rotation a try!
