I have a major fear of becoming bulky, so I always shy away from weights.. which of course means I'm going to plateau, get fed up, and quit.. get fat again.. and have to start over.

So I went to Walmart intending on buying a set of 3lb weights and 5lb weights ($8 for 3lb and $12 for 5lb weights). Well they didn't have any 5's...as I was ready to leave and be upset about it.. I found these...

3's 5's and 8's for $35.... cheaper than if I'd have just bought them separately. Has a nice little holding container as you can see in the photo, comes with some workouts etc.

With my hands being as bad as they are, it's really unlikely that I'll ever need more than a 10lb weight for each hand... so this little set should last me a long time. I guess it's time to rejoin sparkpeople so I can access all their videos again

Those look cute too! I think you should really stop being so fearful of getting big and bulky from lifting. The girls that are big and bulky are that way because they want to be and lift very heavy weights. I think as long as you are just training with hand weights, you won't get bulky. And, I think adding weights into your workout will surprise you with how much it helps. When I first started lifting when I hit the 8 week point, my body started looking so much thinner and I hadn't lost anything but I was slimming down because my body composition had changed. If you start adding more muscle it will really help you with your fat loss. I think you have a really great plan for your goals and I think adding the weights will hopefully help rev up your metabolism.

That's what I'm hoping too Patty!

I know I need muscle to help burn the fat. And there is nothing wrong with muscle definition at all. I just needed to get through my head that I control how much muscle I build.. it's not like losing fat where it's a gamble on where it burns off the fastest...

Plus, I have bat wings and maybe a little muscle underneath them will make them pull in and look a lil less obvious.... hey a girl can dream right?

That is a super cute set! If I didn't already have individual sets of 3's, 5's and 8's I would probably go pick those up!

I agree with Patty, don't worry about getting bulky. From what I've read doing research about starting to lift, it is really hard for women to bulk up like men do.

That's a cute set I wonder if they come in bigger sets. I'm already on 8s.

The more I look at it the more excited I am to break them out. LOL. They're still in the box right now, My living room looks like a garbage truck dropped off a load of stuff... so they have no home! I think next week once DH goes back to work I'm going to break out the wii exercise games. I have several and I think if I take it easy, my foot/ankle should hold up to some of it now. Worst case I strap on the cam walker lol.
