Has anybody else been able to workout that much during the first trimester of their pregnancies? I have been doing terrible this week and just can't workout. My morning sickness has been really bad and has been preventing me from working out. I'm going to keep trying but I don't really know how much I'll be able to workout until this sickness gets better.

Do you think I should just try to do small 10 minute workouts and then pick back up to longer workouts once I get in the second trimester and I am feeling better? What did you ladies do when you were pregnant? Was anybody able to really keep up with their workouts when they had morning sickness?

First pregnancy: absolutely not at all. I had really terrible nausea and vomiting all the time for the first 22ish weeks, so I did not work out at all. Other than work, I literally did nothing but lay on the couch and puke. Second pregnancy: I had been working out consistently leading up to it, and for the first few weeks I still managed to work out, but I hit a wall at some point in the first trimester...mostly extreme exhaustion and some nausea, and I just could not get off the couch! There were several weeks in the first tri where I did not work out at all. Then into the second trimester I got back on track and was able to work out for the rest of the pregnancy.

I'd say do what you can--don't push yourself too much. If you can do a 10 (15? 20? whatever) minute workout, great. If not, I wouldn't sweat it. You might be feeling better in the second trimester (hopefully), so you could always ease back into workouts then. Just listen to your body. Good luck!

I was fortunate enough not to deal with morning sickness and nausea with DS. I walked. Lots of walking...we had just gotten a 8 week old puppy 3 weeks before my bfp so lots and lots of walking. Hope you feel better soon!

Hope you feel better soon, I would try and start small. Any workout, even small is better then no workout at all.

Jess you are definitely lucky. I had it bad with both my boys but this one is even worse. DH is convinced it is a girl because I have been so sick.

I worked out a little here and there with my first two, but the doctor told me that I wasn't allowed with the last two because of my heart condition.

I feel for you, Melissa. I only worked out through my last few pregnancies, but they followed a similar pattern, and no... I did not keep up with my "normal" workout routine from about weeks 8 to 12 or 13. If I was having a good day, I would work out. If not, I would lie down and/or pout instead.

Hang in there, it will get better soon I hope!

Thanks Jennifer. That is what I am just planning on doing. workout if I feel like and don't workout if I don't feel like which has definitely been the case the last few days. Just way too sick to do anything. Once this sickness gets better I'm going to try to workout again but at a much slower pace than I did before pregnancy.

I have never worked out during my pregnancies because most were high risk. I only had really bad morning sickness with Shawn and it was awful for the first trimester. I don't know if I could have handled a full fledged workout if I wanted to. If it were me I'd try to do light stuff like walking or swimming until you get a little further along and start feeling better.

With DD I danced/taught dance 4 hours a day 5 days a week, nothing different from before I was pregnant. However, with DS, I did have some nausea in the first trimester. That pregnancy was also after my loss so we were a lot more cautious with what I did. I honestly didn't do much working out at all through my whole pregnancy with him.

I agree that you should just do what you can do when you feel like you can do it. Don't push yourself too hard.

morning sickness sucks there is no way I would have worked out while pregnant with Helena with m/s even if I was one to workout at that point (which I was not) I was loosing enough weight puking my guts out no way was I worrying about exercising too....do not push yourself....let the morning sickness pass I say...and only if you feel up to it do a light workout
