so I'm going to ask a WWYD kind of question.

The other day I was stuck at a gas station, long story short, my bank card wouldn't work, they didn't take checks, I had some cash but not enough, I have no credit cards, and I have no friends with credit cards that I could call. DH was driving so I was waiting for him to get to where he could call me back. It was really hot so the kids and I were all waiting together in the gas station. A man who kinda knew who I am (small town and all that, although we were in a different town 40 miles away) saw us and apparently he had been told about our situation, maybe he asked the cashier what we were waiting for? Anyway, he gave me enough money so that I could pay for the gas. Oh, man, I was so grateful!

He told me his name and he was easy to find in the phone book. I thanked him at the time, of course, but I can't help but think maybe I should pay him back? He said he wasn't worried about it, happy to do it, etc. But we aren't total deadbeats and I feel bad about needing his money at the time. So, anyway, what do you think I should do?

Hm...I'd probably pay him back, if I could find him. That was awefully nice of him, and while he may not expect any repayment, I'd probably feel badly if I didn't. But that's just me!

I agree, I would pay him back if I could find him. Not because I think he expects it, but because it's what I would be most comfortable with.

Ditto Chantelle. Sort of a pay-it-forward type thing.

That is awful nice of him!!!

Ditto! I was going to say maybe also bake him something along with paying him back. Or, if he won't accept cash/check then maybe get him a gift card to somewhere.

That's hard. I believe in a society that actually helps each other, but at the same time, I don't believe in taking for granite help. It looks like you already made up your mind though .

I don't know if I would pay him back, mostly because I think sometimes people like doing something nice for others. You probably made him feel good getting to do something nice for you and he didn't expect you to pay him back. I guess it would depend on how much he gave you, but I would probably pay it forward to someone else when I saw the opportunity and not worry about it. It all depends on how much he gave you though. It it was enough that it's worrying you, I'd pay him back.
