At the International Sports Medicine Institute, they have a formula for daily water intake: 1/2 ounce per pound of body weight if you're not active (that's ten eight-ounce glasses if you weigh 160 pounds), and 2/3 ounce per pound if you're athletic (13 to 14 glasses a day, at the same weight).

That about.com calculator is great!

Neither calculator link appears to be working - the second one loads but the caluculation doesn't actually work.

This isn't a hydration calculator, but it is an article I wrote about hydration. Thought it might be helpful for some.

How Much Water Do You Need?

Most everyone has heard that they need to drink eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day. But did you know that when you exercise you actually need more then that? Some people say, "Well, I'll drink more water when I get thirsty." But that still isn't enough. By the time you get thirsty, you're already dehydrated. As little as 2% dehydration can lead to fatigue or a drop in endurance. And research has shown that most people come to the gym already dehydrated. Then they wonder why they have lack-luster workouts. It's because dehydration can make your workout feel harder! See below to get some ideas on how to increase your hydration to prevent the sluggishness associated with not getting enough water.

TIPS TO STAY HYDRATED

· Always pack a bottle of water or other fluid (such as Gatoraid) to bring to your workout just like you would pack your sneakers or a sweat towel

· Incorporate fluid breaks into your routine. Don't just drink when you're thirsty. Remember, you're already starting to be dehydrated then. Drink in between sets, between intervals, or at set times during your workout. (Like every 15 minutes.)

· If you don't have a water bottle that says the ounces, go by gulps. One gulp is approximately 1 ounce. Depending on how intensely you exercise, you need at least 4 ounces, and as much as 10 ounces of water per 15 minutes of exercise.

Just remember, you get some water content from your food, which would probably lessen your requirement by as much as a litre. Then, you don't have to drink only water. 100% fruit juice, milk, herbal teas, etc. all count. So, if you're drinking those, you won't have to worry about drinking ONLY that much water. The other beverages count toward the total.

125 ounces of water today, or 3.8 liters.
If you eat a healthy diet, about 20 percent of your water may come from the foods you eat. If you eat a healthy diet you can drink 100 ounces of water today, or 3 liters.

I can do 3 liters easy!! I have a jug that is exactly 3 liters in my fridge! I keep it filled with Crystal Light! I can't STAND the taste of water naturally so I add some flavouring to it, and it's so much easier to drink!!
