well, I thought about your question and my kids don't talk to people they don't know very often....but when they answer people they usually use ma'am and sir.....I had a guy at church pull me aside because he was impressed with Gabriel who at age 5 said, "pardon sir" as he walked between 2 guys having a conversation.....I have to say I was pretty proud! lol......the only thing that gets me is when we are teaching our kids to use manners, but the adults dont return the favor to the kids.....gabe holds doors open for people and rarely he gets a thank you

That's too bad that people don't thank your son for holding doors. Cameron loves holding doors for people for some reason and even here in an area definitely not known for politeness and often cited as one of the rudest areas because people are just in such a hurry around here, he always gets thanked. In fact I've noticed that adults are more likely to thank him and ignore another adult who holds the door for them.

Oh that bothers me, too! Jack is always holding doors for people. Sometimes he gets a thank you and other times, not. I do remember the first time I saw such rudeness in an adult. Jack was in preschool (so he was about 4-5 years old) and he saw a mom walking toward the door. He stood there and held the door open for her and she just brushed right by him without even acknowledging he was there! Oooh, that made me so mad! I think I grumbled to myself about that for half the day!
