Miguel decided to spin in his chair instead of taking his CAT math test! Both math TESTS! He got over 10 wrong he didn't even finish the test! and I have to turn it in I'm not even sure what math facts he does no by heart now because he has started to count on his fingers +1 as of yesterday. DH is talking about sending him to PS next year now and I'm trying to get a portfolio together so the test doesn't count. He got everything right on the English though! Does anyone know if they average the scores or am I going to have to make a remedial math plan?

It depends on what your state does. Here they only care about the composite - all averaged together.

So you can put together a portfolio instead? I woud SO do that! My kids would not test well right now. I may start it when Eli finishes his 3rd grade year. The portfolio would show so much more!

And tell DH that what happened is normal! That test doesn't count. He wasn't coached the whole school year to complete it! He was taught for REAL and TRUE!

We're going to put together a portfolio. I think it's more a wow he can't sit for 10 minuets. He knew the stuff. Dh feels he was disrespectful by being asked if he was ready then not even trying both times. I think he wants him in school because the requirements are easier for our district then on us.

I will! I thought because it was on his terms he wouldn't do that but I was wrong. It's Miguel for you he never sits still. next time I'll have him stand for the test. He does better that way sometimes.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that! So, do you have to do the test AND a portfolio? Or can you choose to do just the portfolio? If you can do just the portfolio, I think that's what I would do.

I can pick one but he picked for me lol... It's just really hard to find a certified teacher here (I know no one moved here 3 years ago). So now I have to be on the hunt for one.

I got a response from a unschool yahoo group about testing Miguel... It only has to be the combination of the scores that are over the 25% mark so I'm not as worried. keep your fingers crossed!
