A third grader sniffed a sharpie and got suspended because the school considered it a violation of their substance abuse policy. Craziness.

Wow.
Just....wow.

I wonder how many things are going on in the school that aren't being noticed because of people paying attention to something like sniffing a Sharpie spot?

And the list of reasons why I homeschool keeps getting loooonger and loooooonger!

If you give Miguel anything that has even a slight sent, he'll smell it, even thing I don't realize have a sent. Sharpies have a very strong smell if Miguel didn't smell each and everyone to see if they were different based on color he's having a bad day! kids explore there world through ALL there senses just because they reach school age doesn't mean they stop. WE investigate when there's a new smell all the time. Suspension for investigation is wrong, he's only 8. I hope he doesn't worry think investigating is going to get him into trouble.

That just makes me so sad! I used to sniff a lot of things when I was young too. I like the smell of gasoline, I used to open the gas tank to the car to get a whiff. My mom caught me doing it and didn't punish me for huffing, she explained to me the dangers and educated me. Its so wrong that ps claims to be there for education, but when something like this happens they don't step up to the bar on sitting down with a child one on one to understand and educate them- they punish them when they don't understand.
