On Sunday Fritz started running a fever. We didn't think much of it because almost all the other toddlers at church have had fevers over the last couple weeks and that's all it's been. Just a fever, nothing else. Well, Fritz doesn't do things like everyone else.

Last night at 11 and 1 he woke up barking like a seal and so into the bathroom we went to put the shower on to steam him. After a few minutes both times he was better so we went back to bed. At 3, he was barking again but this time the steam didn't do anything. He kept having the stridor and couldn't get his breath at all so we called 911.

The ambulance came and they checked him over and he was doing better, but still having the stridor and coughing so they said it would be for the best to take him to the ER. So I rode in the ambulance with him while Jamie and the big kids followed in the van.

Even in the middle of the night with a practically empty ER they move slow as molasses.

They did an x-ray of his chest and and one of his throat and the doctor said hr has the classic steeple sign of croup. He said Fritz has a bad case of it so he wanted to give him the steroids so he wouldn't see us back in there over the next couple nights.

The protocol in that ER for giving steroids for croup is to give them orally and if that doesn't work to do them by IM injection. The doctor said the oral steroid tastes like liquid aluminum so is it any wonder Fritz spit it out. They ended up giving it to him IM. That was his first shot ever. He looked at the nurse and said "Ow! Ow! Ow!" and then glared at the nurse for the next few minutes lol He didn't cry at all, but Fritz doesn't cry from things you'd expect him to cry for like shots and getting blood drawn. He cries from things like getting weighed instead.

So once all that was done and his breathing was so much better we headed home after almost 4 hours in the ER. I am so done with this baby and all his sicknesses over the last several months!

Poor little guy!! He sounds like my Eathan when he gets sick. If Eathan gets anything he's 10x worse than anyone else that had the same virus and 9/10 times he's on his breathing treatments and we've made at least one trip in the middle of the night to the after hours for steroids. I sure hope little Fritz grows out of this allergy stuff!! It's rough on these little guys.

Bless his heart! Bryce was my croup baby and it started when he was 9 months old. He turned blue and it was so scary for us! He had bouts with it until he was 3 years old! But the good news, he hasn't had it since!

Sounds like a LONG night for all of you. Hope you cna all get some rest today!

I'm tired, but I did sleep a lot last night (8:30-6:30). I'm always tired but that's to be expected at 37 1/2 weeks pregnant! Fritz is better today. He's coughing like crazy but none of the barking seal sound thanks to the steroid. He slept pretty well last night and a lot during the day yesterday. He looks so sad and tired still, though.

Aw, poor little guy. I'm glad he's feeling a little better. Laney always used to get croup, every single winter. It was horrible. This past winter was the first time she hasn't had it. And she was always my sick baby, she would het everything. She seems to be doing much better with all of that now and doesn't get sick nearly as much. Hopefully Fritz will grow out of it too!
