We used ABeka last year for the second half of the year. My oldest was failing in the public school and the teacher was a nightmare. I ended up pulling them out and homeschooling starting in November. I did the regular ABeka cirriculum and this year when he began school he started off with A's and B's. MUCH BETTER. So, both of my boys (ages 9 1/2 and 11) are wanting me to homeschool next year. I have two younger ones now and a possible on the way so I was thinking of doing the DVD program this year. Does anyone have a review of it? Thanks for all the input!

Wow, your family has such a good testimony for homeschooling.

I use Abeka's 1st and 4th with my 2 boys. We don't use the videos because they are just so boring to us. And we didn't want to be tied down to them. My husband used the videos in school as a child and he hated them. I bet you could make a schedule that works for you with the books and you as the teacher. It would be cheaper!

There are plenty of yahoo groups for abeka and some of the moms there use the videos. Would you like a link?

I am so glad you are here!

Also, they have started streaming the classes as well.

I've thought about getting the DVD program for Kindergarten. A friend uses it with her two kids (2nd and 5th), and she said they're great... but they're also boring. Some days she'll do the DVD and some days she'll watch it ahead of time so she can come up with her own thing to teach. Not sure if that was helpful to you or not?

Thanks for the warm welcome!! I thought of using the books and teaching again, but I am honestly not sure I am up for it LOL. I have a son that will be in 6th grade and one that will be in 4th grade. I also have a 3 1/2 yo and a baby that is 9 mo and I *may* be preggo again. DH is looking at a possible deployment in the spring (active duty army) so I am not sure that I can handle homeschooling 2 kids and taking care of as many as 5 while DH is gone. I was thinking the DVDs would give me more of an opportunity to keep up with the younger kids and housework. On days when things are going well or there is not much planned I could certainly do some lessons with them. They may just have to deal with boring for a while I can make it up to them in other ways, making homework fun, doing field trips, etc. Thanks for the input and any links would be GREAT I still have to do all the paperwork for NC first as we just moved here in Nov 2008. Nice to meet all of you - I will definitely be popping in here on occasion!

I've heard they are boring, but a solid education.

abeka : Abeka Curriculum Users

There should be some ladies there who can better understand schooling with abeka with 4 babies of their own.

I am so glad you are here.
