I really wanted to use Sonlight, but the cost is just going to be too much for us this year. I have been looking at FIAR and it seems to have the core of what I wanted anyway (literature based curriculum) and the cost is significantly less. I still plan on using Math U See. Could someone with experience using this curriculum tell me their thoughts? I'm not really sure what level we should start with if we do go with it. DS is finishing second grade right now. (public school) He is gifted and is reading on a fifth grade level but some of the Beyond assignments looked too complicated for him. I want him to be challenged but not so much that he gives up!

I am planning to go to a homeschooling book store later today but I would like to know which books to buy if they do have them!

I used FIAR some last year when we homeschool for a bit. I think its great as a supplement to some other type of curriculum but not as a stand alone curriculum. It was neat and the stories were great but just not substantial enough to stand alone. It would be a good bedtime thing to do or right before nap time or something.

Hope this helps. It may work out for you though but this was my opinion.

The books in FIAR are picture books, but most are quite long and 'rich' ones. I think with MUS, plus an English program it is enough. But it depends what you want to do and what you feel should be covered.

I believe many of the books are available over there at the library. I would take the list to a good library first before buying any.

Ditto! I really, really, really wanted to love FIAR, but found it took quite a bit of extra work (and money) to make it a complete program. As a supplement it's nice.
