This morning, Scotty woke up at 3am and told me his belly hurt. He went back to sleep and at 7am, vomited while he was making his bed. Then he ate and felt better and was playing as normal. I thought maybe it was something he ate, so I attempted to go on as normal.

Around 11AM, I took Bryce to the summer reading program at the library and kept Scotty with me. We went to a yardsale (of all places). When we pulled in, he was FINE. 5 min. after we got there, he was telling me his tummy hurt. Then, he was kneeling on the ground with stomach pain. I heard him cough and rushed him to the grass where he vomited. Then, we got in the car and he started begging me to "take him to the doctor." About 5 minutes later, he vomited again. The dr couldn't get him in until 4pm. Now, he is playing in the living room like he is FINE, of course.

The bug or whatever is really strange - he gets horrible stomach cramps and then vomits and then he is fine again for a good bit of time. I have never seen anything like this, personally (probably because we don't do a lot of vomiting around here). I talked with a nurse a few minutes ago asking if I should really have him seen since vomiting is the only symptom right now and he is fine in between. She said that what bothered her was the amount of stomach pain he had before vomiting. Isn't it normal to have a bad feeling belly before you puke? I mean, geez!

I called the local ER and asked if there had been any increase in stomach viruses in this area - the answer was no. Swine Flu has also not been documented in this area (doesn't mean it isn't here...it just hasn't been tested and reported yet if it is).

Not to mention, I am feeling the strain because I have so many things up in the air right now -

At 3, I am taking Scotty to a dr an hour away (we live in BFE) and then I have to meet a relative 2 hours from where I will be when I am at the dr to drop off Bryce fora week at the beach with Grandma and Grandpa. However, his grandma just called and said that "if you get to the dr and it is the flu, then Bryce will have to stay home. Otherwise, we will watch him for vomiting and call you if there is a problem." I am fine with that, but just all the driving and rushing around and a sick child and not knowing what is wrong with him. I totally need to take an ativan!

Poor kid. Sounds like an icky tummy bug. He hasn't eaten any raw Nestle refrigerated cookie dough recently has he? They've recalled it due to possible contamination and making people sick. The good news is what he has isn't swine flu so you don't have to worry about that. The flu is a respiratory infection and he has a gastrointestinal illness. A lot of people refer to the "stomach flu" when they are throwing up or have diarrhea and even some doctor's are guilty of it, but there is no such thing as the stomach flu. That's gastroenteritis and can be caused by about a zillion different things.

This is exactly what all 3 of my boys were doing a couple weeks ago. They would throw up & feel perfectly fine & go on about their day until all of a sudden they had tummy pain again & would throw up. Justin just did it again last night. He woke me up at 11:30 & said he just threw up. He's been perfectly fine all day and just going about his business. It's the weirdest tummy bug I've ever seen, too. I hope Scotty's feeling better soon.

Aww. I hope he feels better, the only time I really had stomach pain before throwing up I had a case of food poisoning. I hope he gets better soon!

I took him in to the doctor today because the nurse seemed to think there was something freaky about the bad stomach pain. Dr. said it was a stomach bug. He has been fine since the last vomit earlier this afternoon. He only threw up a total of 3 times. He has kept down pasta, 2 bottles of Gatorade, and 4 popsicles, so hopefully he is on the mend!

Yep when that happens just switch to the BRAT diet right away, wait and watch. That is really all that can be done, even by a Doc.

Thanks to everyone who responded. Just wanted to update that Scotty is fine today! Thank goodness! However, I called his Tae-Kwon-Do instructor to let him know Scotty wouldn't be there today, and guess what?? Of course...Scotty wasn't the only one out with the bug. Guess I know where we got it now...

Isn't it the weirdest bug ever? My boys had that a few weeks ago. That's what got Jack's blood sugar all out of whack & we're still trying to get it straightened out! Justin has had 3 bouts with the bug. Hopefully no one else in your family gets sick.
