I was just wondering if you've heard anything back from the infectious diseases specialist, or if you've found another doctor to take Daniel to yet? Has his fever gone away at all?

Still has fever. The (old) doc called and said that he talked to a pediatric infectious disease doc. That doc said she specializes in unknown fevers, so she sees them all the time. She rarely finds an answer, though. Based on his history, she thinks it's either a parasite or something rheumatologic. She said we could bring him in if we'd like, but based just on what he told her (all of this is 3rd party info ... A to B to C to B to A), she wouldn't have any idea where to start. She thinks something is brewing and will present itself with more obvious symptoms later.

We think we have another pediatrician. She came highly recommended from 2 people (one of which is a pediatrician-turned-SAHM). I ordered a copy of his medical records. The invoice was mailed back on Saturday, so hopefully the records will be here this week and we can make an appt for next week. He's due for his 1 year checkup anyway, so whether the fever sticks around or not (I'm sure it will... I mean, it's been almost 3 months!), we'll see her no matter what.

Thanks for asking.

Glad to hear you at least have a different doctor-- maybe this one will take concerns such as that a little more seriously?!

As a side note, I was thinking today... is it possible he has a food allergy and it's triggering something internally that is making him run a fever every day (like dairy products or something else he's had a lot of days for the last few months)? When I was little I got ear infections every 4 weeks (basically just enough time for the antibiotics to wear off again) until they figured out I was allergic to various things... I think it was milk, eggs, and chocolate, lol, and then the infections went away. Now I'm allergic to yellow food colouring, but don't have a noticeable reaction unless you check my urine (yay for urinalysis when you're pregnant, lol) and then I have so much protein spilling that it basically indicates kidney failure levels and everyone panics. My dr. says that what is most likely happening is my kidneys become inflamed and stop working the way they're supposed to until the colourant clears my body. Anyway, I know fevers aren't caused by allergies but they can be a sign of symptoms you can't see, so just a thought I thought I'd throw out there...

I've also thought of allergies... and even brought that up to the original doc. I can't remember exactly when I started giving milk products like yogurt and cheese, but I know it was in August. That's when the fever started. He said it couldn't possibly be a milk allergy because he was on milk-based formula all along. (By the way, this is the doctor who told us babies *can't* get allergies when Ben was a baby, but I have a 10 year old niece who can prove him wrong... that girl is highly allergic to all the biggies like peanuts, red dye, eggs, milk, citrus, etc.) So, yeah, allergies are still on my list of things to ask about. He did some sort of inflammation test (supposedly), but I don't know exactly what it tested. Waiting for records...
