I was just curious if you pre read all the read aloud books and books you assign or do you read them along with them for the first time?

I usually pre-read books that I will be using for shared reading or read alouds such as books for History, Geography and Science, etc.

The other books such as the reading level books I pretty much read those along when oldest son is reading them aloud to me.

*All* of them, no. I pre-read some of them, and whether or not I pre-read a book is not based on anything in particular that I have decided upon. It probably depends on how long the book is and how much time I have to read at work after I've spent enough time on message boards. I've had some moments, like when I was reading aloud a story out of our grammar book and it said that skunks are sometimes called "woodpussies." (seriously? sorry, but gross.) Actually, that's the only moment I can recall. That aside, I have had no problems.

note: What I do read is review after review on message boards and amazon.com. If there is something very objectionable or even a little weird it is bound to come up there and I will know before I buy it.

Haven't gotten that far yet. I absolutely HATE reading. With a passion. For now, everything he's reading alone is child-appropriate, and everything that is more advanced is for reading aloud together. They're stories I already know (and thus, already know when to "edit as I go" when I find questionable words or content).

No, I haven't pre-read anything. I might when he's older, but at this point he is only reading beginning readers.

I've pre-read a few things, but not enough to spit at. I do read tons and tons of reviews. Our literature that goes alongside our history is from a highly trustable source for me, so I don't worry about that. It's about getting the lists from the right sources, and finding reviews. (A lot of the books we read don't HAVE many reviews because they're not hugely circulated. But, again, I super trust the people at Bright Ideas Press, Maggie Hogan in particular who hand-picks the literature and writes the study guides. So that makes a huge difference.)

Fluff literature I sometimes pre-read, or study my head off in reviews. The one time I don't something slips by. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is my numero uno example. Ugh.
