We do a light load during the summer because everyone else is out of school, and that's when all the "fun stuff" is usually scheduled during the year. I like taking things a subject at a time, though when possible. I remember learning a whole lot more in college than I did in high school, and I attribute that to a quick, intense study of a subject rather than bits and pieces drawn out over a long time. Things like math go on and on forever, but things like a particular type of science are something I like to dig into and then move on. Also, for example, Abeka's health books are actually more like little "readers". They're something you can read all in one sitting and learn much more than if you drew them out over a year. Health is a subject I think is best learn through life anyway. We'll do Abeka books 1 and 2 over the last 2 weeks of summer. We're doing Song School Latin over a 6 week period just to get a fun crash-course before starting the more intense Latin for Children series in the fall.
I do a lot more social sciences (Geography, History), German, about the only subject required daily is Math, and weekly reading assignments.
A family is a place where minds come in contact with one another.
If these minds love one another the home will be as beautiful as a flower garden.
But if these minds get out of harmony with one another it is like a storm that plays havoc with the garden.
Chrystal that is how I teach science all year.. we do what I call Science bursts.. 2 weeks of a topic then we do 2 weeks of a history topic then back to 2 weeks of a different science etc.. the kids learn so much
