Do you do the same thing all year, or do you have a lighter load during the summer? Do you do all subjects all the time, or do you finish one and then start another?

Once the weather gets nice here ( still waiting) we only do structured schooling in the three R's.. science, art, social studies are lived.. we hit the books harder in the cold weather.

Like the new siggy! Love the dirty hands!

We do a light load during the summer because everyone else is out of school, and that's when all the "fun stuff" is usually scheduled during the year. I like taking things a subject at a time, though when possible. I remember learning a whole lot more in college than I did in high school, and I attribute that to a quick, intense study of a subject rather than bits and pieces drawn out over a long time. Things like math go on and on forever, but things like a particular type of science are something I like to dig into and then move on. Also, for example, Abeka's health books are actually more like little "readers". They're something you can read all in one sitting and learn much more than if you drew them out over a year. Health is a subject I think is best learn through life anyway. We'll do Abeka books 1 and 2 over the last 2 weeks of summer. We're doing Song School Latin over a 6 week period just to get a fun crash-course before starting the more intense Latin for Children series in the fall.

I do a lot more social sciences (Geography, History), German, about the only subject required daily is Math, and weekly reading assignments.

We have a light load to begin with so we usually stick to it. However Miguel's going to his grandparents for part of the summer so he'll just take paper to write to us, free reading books and math.
