Hello,
First, let me introduce myself. I'm Samantha, mother to 3 children. My oldest just completed kindergarten at a public school but I have contemplating homeschooling for a long time. I'm going to give it a try this year. I just don't know where to begin! I'll have a kindergartener and a first grader. Do you all have any advice? Where do I even begin?
Thank you much!

First of all, welcome to the board! I've been homeschooling DS1 for about 6 months.. we tried PS but it just wasn't for us. Do you know what type of curriculum you would be interested in? Do you want something religious or secular? Do you think your two older kids are on a close enough level that you could teach them the same grade? We are using Horizons for math, reading, and spelling; and Lifepacs for History and Science. That is for first grade. To finish out the kindergarten year we didn't even buy a curriculum, we just used K & 1st grade level workbooks like you can buy at walmart (we got them on Amazon).

Welcome... I'm Alison and we just started our 5th year of homeschooling. Step one is to see what and how you'd like to teach, then start the catalog requests and just immerse yourself in them and try and see what you might like.

Again welcome to the group!

Welcome! I'm Chrystal, one of the hosts here. (Our other host is tied up with moving and stuff right now, so she probably won't respond right away. ) I'll have one doing 2nd and one doing preschool in the coming year.

Have you already checked out NV law? If not, that's the first step. If I remember right, NV is pretty easy, but I'll have to check on that. I'm on my way out the door right now (HS group is doing a behind the scenes tour of a grocery store this morning. )

Welcome aboard!

NV just has you sign a letter of intent and do an education plan then mail it in(I live in NV). Are you in Clark County cuz I am and thats all I had to do, I think the whole state is the same from all Ive read.

Im Hillarie, btw, and my oldest is 6 so he'll be doing 1st grade stuff this fall. I just mailed out my letter a couple days ago. My middle son just turned 4 so Ill be doing preschool with him(and Im sure my 2 yr old will wanna learn too LOL).

Here is the link for the letter to print and sign and such...hope it helps.

Thanks. You guys are great! We're actually moving out of NV by the end of this month. My husband is in the Navy, so we're just stationed here. My kids and I are moving up to Idaho (where I'm from) while my husband finishes up his last year here and then we're planning on moving to FL. We have a lot of moving to do in the next 2 yrs.

Wow, very busy time for you all.

Wish you luck with all of it!!!

Try www.hslda.org, they have links to all the states and their regulations regarding homeschooling and what must be done. So you should find Idaho and even Florida there.

ID is definitely an easy state. Ranks right up there with TX and OK! FL has a few hoops to jump through, but nothing terrible. There are some here from FL, so I'll let them answer specifics.

Welcome!

I'm Sandra, mom to two boys ages 4 and 10. We live in Texas and have been homeschooling from scratch (neither of my children have ever been in Public school).

I think everyone here has already given you some wonderful tips. I hope you enjoy homeschooling, we love it!

Welcome!! Like the gals said, review the state laws on where your going to be so you can have whatever you need to ready/submitted. Another helpful thing when deciding on your curriculum, is to know your kid's learning styles so you can get the best match.
