I'm pretty sure we're going to use this in the fall with Cassidy (she so desperately wants to learn to read), but I'm not sure where to begin, so to speak.

She knows her ABC's in order, out of order, and lowercase, and the sounds that they make. She's pretty much ready for blending. Should I skip the primers (Get Ready, Get Set, Go For the Code) and just jump into book 1? Or should I still get the primers?

Also, for those that have used it, what do you think of it?

I have never used it, but Chyrstal uses it and she can be more helpful.

Yes, you need to start with book 1. Skip the preschool stuff. I love them. Some people get burned out and don't complete the series, but we started with book 3 and sped through the whole thing very quickly (like... in 3 months!). I like how books 7 and 8 add a little reading comprehension for the first time. I also like how you can be flexible with the lessons. You don't have to complete the whole thing, and you don't have to do a lot of writing if you'd rather not. Ben was 3 when we did it, so other than circling pictures, I did all the writing for him. We did a lot of it orally. I also like how they have the half-level books if you need extra practice. It doesn't tell a child "you have to do book 1 over again", it tells a child, "congrats! you're progressing! you can move to book 1 and A HALF!") If extra practice isn't necessary, go on to book 2. Each lesson in the books stands alone. You can skip one she clearly already knows, or you can spend more time on one she doesn't. It also has review lessons that can be done or skipped, and they can also be used as pre-tests to decide if you need to cover a section or not.

Sorry... I just started typing and forgot to breathe. No paragraph marks.

Thank you! That tells me what I needed to know I was having trouble finding that kind of information on Christian Book's website.

I will start with Book 1. That will save me some money and her some repetition.
