I've been MIA for awhile now, but thought I'd pop in and give a little update. I have pretty much given up on any formal HS'ing for now ... it's just too hard when I am working full time and the girls are only 3 so it's not necessary, even if they are interested in it. Instead we have gone with an "unschooling" approach ... we just elaborate on whatever they are interested in in the moment they bring it up. This led to quite an interesting conversation about centripetal force the other night as Arianna was thrilled to discover she could swing her "grocery bag" full of wooden food upside down without things falling out of it. I thought DH was nuts to try and explain gravity and forces (in a tone of a college professor and in detail) to our three year old, but when I heard her explain it to her grandmother the next day, I knew we are really doing what is best for the kids

The girls have also loved finding out what every word they can say starts with too ... we have been doing lots of letter sounds and even had to talk about the "bossy r" (because Arianna starts with an a and not an r

) Of course we still read to the girls constantly (have since they were born!), but I took on reading a chapter book to them as a bed time story for the first time. They are loving it and remembering what we have read previously when we pick it up each night. Serenity did tell me though that she likes the books that you don't have to make your own pictures for better LOL .... I was impressed she knew she had to create her own pictures in her mind as she was listening though - that is a comprehension strategy I have trouble getting my 4th graders to understand! So, I guess you could say our school year is going well, even if it doesn't quite look like I had planed and despite the fact that my activity boxes are sitting empty. Thanks to anyone who made it through my very long post too!
