I know it's been quite awhile since I have posted here, but when I had a question, I knew just where to go I was wondering if anyone had experience with the All About Reading program? (This is the reading version of All About Spelling) I have looked at them online and I really like what I see... I just wonder if it is as good as it looks. I am a bit leery because of the price ... 100 a year plus an extra 25 for the second student seems like a lot to me. I try to tell myself that if we are blessed with more kids it will then only be 25 for them since we'll have the manuals, but it still seems like a big investment.

The price is the reason I stayed away from AAS initially, but then I got my hands on it at a curriculum "petting zoo", and decided it wasn't for me anyway.

I haven't seen AAR. Well... that's not true. I have. It was at a HS conference I went to, but at the time, I didn't pay much attention, because I'd already looked at AAS and saw the price.

Sorry... that wasn't very helpful, was it? Perhaps this will be more helpful? Review of: All About Reading

LOL ... yeah, the price is the only thing that I am really on the fence about. I have a program already, which is why I am kind of blah about buying another one, but mine doesn't start at the "beginning" and I don't have the teaching manuals for it. I use it with older kids at school who already are working in the program so I don't have to start with the basic sounding out concepts. I know the strategies presented very well, but feel the scripted aspect will be better to keep me on track (and let hubby take over from time to time!). I do wonder if I could just wing it though .... I hate these decisions!

Eh... wing it. Have some confidence in yourself. If it were any other kid, you'd totally be able to do it. You're probably questioning yourself because these are your own kids.

Besides, they're young enough that you have plenty of time to try before buying something expensive. Then, when you see what a great job you did, you'll have all that un-spent money to do something nice for "teacher appreciation day."

Hmmmmm....now that does sound appealing LOL ... and you are right, any other kid and I'd just wing it and they'd be fine ... my own and I am ready to spend a small fortune.

I thought it sounded interesting when it first came out until I saw the price lol. So other than that I have no experience with it. Maybe watch for when Funnix has another free week and download it then, it is a good reading program put together by the Teach Your Child to Read in 100EZ.
