Does anyone happen to have rosetta stone spanish they want to sell? Long shot but figured I would ask....The level one is what I am looking for. That being said, have you used and liked it? I am wanting to get it for this fall, but it's so expensive! I think it will be good for the whole family though DH and I were talking about how we would love to "relearn" the spanish we did in high school!

I wish lol. That is one I wanted too. Ended up getting was Spanish for Children primer A which is by Classical Academic Press. The other I really looked at was The Learnables. Both of these are 30% right now at Hearts At Home site.

I didn't know you were using CAP for Spanish, Jenn! We're doing Latin for Children and love it. We'll do book C next year before switching over to Greek for Children.

Just checked this out, do you have the dvds? What age are you using it for?

I have to say that I cannot stand Rosetta Stone. The private school I've been tutoring Spanish at has RS for their curriculum and I find it very incomplete. It's supposed to be entirely self sufficient, but in every single lesson I have to explain to the kids why a word was used in a certain context. And some of the lessons are vague. RS teaches mimicry, not how to form thoughts in the new language.
I have long been a fan of Michel Thomas. Years ago I used his German program and I did convince the school to get his Spanish course. In addition to being a master linguist and teaching numerous languages, he was also a psychologist and able to present each language in a way that would make it easily memorable.
His courses are entirely audio disc. He instructs listeners to not write anything at all and not strain over memorization. CD tracks are 3-7 minutes each. I've only used it as an adult and with the high school students, but have never had to listen to a lesson more than twice to "get it." He teaches you how to think in the language you are learning.
I don't know how well suited this style is for younger learners however. They might find themselves too easily distracted for even short lessons on an audio only program.
HTH!
