Let's share ideas for things that are cheap/free and out of the heat for our kids to do this summer.

(3) There are indoor inflatable bouncy house things here that have half-price days with unlimited same-day returns if you leave... which is really nice for places like the one in the mall.

my local movie theater has free movie Wednesdays. All of the movies have just been released on DVD

Actually, we don't have anything local, which kinda sucks. The kids bowl free thing is nowhere near here(we have a bowling alley, it just doesn't participate, lol). The theater here never does anything, if it's even still open, not sure.

I wish we had more places around here.

We dont have those free options around here either. We will go a lot to the wildlife refuge which is free and fun but it wont be cool lol on most days. I am going to have to look and see what we can do. We have 4h stuff to do to keep busy for now anyway.

There is next to nothing here either. Our theater offers $2 matinees a couple of times/week, but the nearest theater is almost an hour and a half away!

we are going to do kids bowl free, i joined a group on yahoo for my county that does meetups and the longway planetarium here has free days as does the crossroads village here.

Well we are only in Texas for the first half of Summer, but our community offers:

1. Story time at the library every Wednesday morning.
2. Movies in the park every Friday night.
3. My in-laws pool, lol, which we have already been utilizing.

We hit the grandparents' pools (one on each side of the family) and the beach Our local library doesn't have story time in the summer but they have a summer series that they do for school age kids but my preschoolers loved it last year too! They bring in singers, plays, and magicians and have a reading incentive where the kids earn coupons for places like rita's waterice We're also lucky that DH used to work for a local amusement park when he was a teen and my FIL is still friends with owner so we get free tickets for there too. We also have a local zoo that is free too and a great park (although both of them tend to be very crowded).

We're doing the free bowling thing. We'll spend a lot of time at the community pool in our neighborhood. A local movie theater often has kids movies that the admission price is bringing in canned food for one of the local homeless shelters. And the library offers lots of different things.

Dang I could keep going... there are so many things. Very blessed to have lots to choose from around here. Lots of museums and parks have free days at some point during the summer usually geared toward homeschoolers.
