I was wondering, at what level does the teacher's manual really become necessary?

Depends how good your English is, really. I only use it for an occasional weird diagram or an answer dispute, and we're working on 5th (grammar was one of my favorite subjects in school). I own 6th and 8th, and they look similar.

Just wanted to come back and say thank-you!! for taking the time to respond to my question. I realized after a bit that "necessary" would be highly subjective and one really couldn't know if I personally would need them or not.

But anyway! I made a different grammar choice so it doesn't matter.
