Has the flu hit you and/or your community? Did you and/or your kids get the shot?

It's spreading like wildfire here, but we're good so far. The kids got the shot, but I didn't. *knock on wood* I never get the flu.

We usually never get it. We don't get the shot either. We've had the flu FOUR times this year!!! Each time has been ridiculously different than the last. I'm so over it!

We don't do the flu shots anymore. All three kids have reacted very badly to them(not necessarily getting the flu, but they did cause reactions, and in Alyssia they were very very severe). So I just don't take the chance anymore, it's not worth it for the small percentage of potential protection. We also don't usually get the flu, though.

In December Leo got the flu, and it was really bad. He also had pneumonia and an upper respiratory infection at the same time.(after he'd already had the flu) He wasn't better until week ago. He still has some coughing here and there but it's going away, just slowly. Almost had to be admitted to the children's hospital because his fever just wasn't coming down no matter what I tried. That was actually pretty scary, he's never had a fever that high before.

The flu has hit this area, not as hard as some, but hard enough. Quite a few people have been to the ER and at least 10 kids have been hospitalized according to the nurses a few weeks ago at the ER. I'm not sure how many adults. I think there has been either one or two deaths in this area-older people if I'm not mistaken. That was in November and December. It was definitely spreading like wildfire through the schools though. I just doubt most people actually go to the dr for it, especially around here.

I got sick too, but it wasn't the flu Leo had. It was something entirely different and really bad. I had some kind of viral infection they couldn't pinpoint, infections in both ears(one drum ruptured), strep, sinus infection and eventually a respiratory infection(part of that was my own fault for not going to the dr when I should have). I'm still getting over it. The respiratory infection kicked my asthma into high gear, so still needing to use the nebulizer and an expectorant so I don't cough a lung up. Hoping it all passes soon though. Before allergy season kicks in would be nice lol.

I think we've seen enough of the doctor's office this winter. We haven't had this many office and ER visits in a very long time.

We got our flu shots (requirement with my immunosuppressant meds). We haven't gotten sick here but I have been crazy with hand washing for both kids and staying away from large groups of kids.

My husband had the flu during Christmas. The girls and I were very lucky that we didn't catch it. We don't get flu shots, because we aren't around a lot of people. It hit in our area the end of November through Christmas.

We all had a mild dose of it (except Hannah) over the Christmas holidays, it seems to be everywhere this year! We don't do the flu shots.

We do not vaccinate.

None of us have had the flu. In the last 9 years, I've had the flu once. Same with hubby, 5 year old daughter and 3 year old son.

Figures! Daniel got the shot, but now he has the flu! His temp spiked at 107 during the night last night, without warning. I took him to the doc this morning, and she confirmed type A flu. She said he just didn't react to the shot like he should have (which kinda doesn't surprise me given his history of IgG deficiency). This means I'll likely get it, though. I CAN'T get sick!!!! I have a conference next week that I paid a bunch of money to get into and have to sell at least $1k in books just to break even. *panic*

We got the shot. My kids are little petree dishes, and are out with enough people that with a newborn in the hose it seemed a wise decision. We've done one mild stomach virus so far, and i'm hoping we avoid the others.

We were not going to get the shot as long as we were in Hawaii. Mainly because it doesn't really hit hard there and the teacher I was hoping to student teach with was going to be in an older grade (so the kids were better at personal hygeine like hand-washing). That didn't work out though and we found out LAST WEDNESDAY that I needed to be in Texas by tomorrow to start student teaching. The flu had hit really bad in this area and I am student teaching in first grade so we went ahead and got our shot. This is the first time we had gotten any since winter 08/09 though.

We don't do flu shots. Cameron was sick two weeks ago and Ani's been sick for a week. I figured they had colds, but Ani might have the flu. She's been in bed for several days and is just getting better. So maybe we've got someone with the flu. Or it might just be a bad cold.
