I don't like the idea of giving the government an interest-free loan so we make it so we'll get back or owe just a little bit ($106 from state and $63 from federal this year so we were pretty much right on). That amount would go much of anywhere paying for the kids' school.
I also bought next year's Calvert when they were having the sale. That's 1st for Adrian, 3rd for Fritz, and 6th for Cameron. Pretty much that was buy 2 get 1 free for me We use Teaching Textbooks for math for the older two boys. We'll need 6th grade math for both of them. I'll probably buy it in the summer some time. They ship fast. Ani will need TT Algebra II in a few weeks. I'll get it when we need it. Ani uses Monarch for Spanish, history, and science. I'll probably buy those in April when Alpha Omega does their sale. Then again, maybe not since they seem to be having random sales a lot lately. Religion and everything else she'll need I'll buy in the summer probably.

I don't need to buy anything except for basic supplies like paper, pencils art stuff and all that. I buy that stuff when the stores have their back to school sales, it's dirt cheap then.
We'll get a refund, we always do, though it's not a big one or anything. This year it's going to cover medical bills though. Mostly it will cover the down payment for surgery.
I also don't like to allow the government to use my money as a loan. We've gotten tax credits and stuff that have given us big refunds, but usually, we're pretty close to where we should be.
I usually buy in May when Mardel's has their sale. I don't know if I will this year or not, since they've been changing the format of their sales lately. I need to buy Notgrass America the Beautiful, maybe a few Life of Fred books (we've been sharing with another family, but that family is probably moving sometime in Fall), and R&S Bible 8th. Otherwise, I think I have everything already. (Oh... I might buy the Code Cracker book for Greek from Classical Academic Press. We're kinda holding off on our plans to do Greek until I find out if we'll be learning ASL as a family for Daniel's sake. Going back to the doc for him in June.)
we've been buying materials throughout the year and will continue to do so as things are needed. We dont get much of a refund, we have things set so that we dont owe anything but get very little back (we also dont like loaning our money to the government for free). What we get back just goes back into savings anyway.
I plan to buy supplies during the back to school sales since things are so much cheaper at that time of year.

I've started planning, but I won't purchase my books until June or July. I usually wait until the conference in late June. I'll order the girls testing before the end of this month to be delivered in May.
We'll buy some in May and the rest when the stores do their back to school sales. I don't need a whole lot though, because a lot of former PS teachers have given me some text books to work with. Mostly just going to need some new ink cartridges (or maybe a new printer if I am lucky), paper and some new art supplies.
We will get a refund, but not a huge one or anything. I ordered a few books this week (Hooked on Phonics gr. 1, Get Set for the Code, and Go for the Code). I plan to attend a conference in June so if I buy anything else, it will probably be then.
