Today is the first time since Madison started Kindergarten 5 years ago that school is starting back without us. Last year, they went for the first 6 weeks. This is the first time that I didn't have to grieve about them going back and stress about what was soon to come. It is a big reminder of how blessed we are to have this opportunity.
We will start back schooling a week from today. I am going to take the kids to do some fun stuff this week to make the most of our last week. It is a different feeling, though, than the usual, franic, trying to get as much in with them before I let them go, feeling that usually accompanies them going back to school. It is different than the guilt that I usually feel because I know that for the next 9 months that they will have time for little else than school stuff...no play...no fun. Yes, it is different. Even though we have only one more week before we start back, it isn't then end of everything good.
Anyway, I'm glad we aren't at the school today.....so very glad!!!

Wow, what a neat feeling! Most schools around here will start in the next couple of weeks. We're going to go back next Wednesday, so I've still got a week to plan. I'm getting excited, as is Reilly! I hadn't thought to do a bunch of fun things this week to celebrate our last week of summer - I should get on that!
Do you have any plans to make the first day of school spectacular? (I'm looking for ideas!)

We will not start 2nd grade until the 11th of September. I love it. And I am so happy to hear of your sweet and slow week before starting.

We're having the opposite problem. They passed a law in Michigan that school couldn't start until after Labor day, dumb huh? So, I am debating on whether to start my kids back early or just wait until after Labor day. We'll see, depends on when I get my self organized and together for the year.

How funny! Why did they do that? Here, there are some schools that go back this Thursday, some that go back on the 12th, and others that go back a little later...it's weird.
