My oldest son, is due to start 1st grade, in the local schools on 9/6, I REALLY want to homeschool, but I have so many questions. How does the Special Ed program work? Will I still have access to the Special Ed department at the local schools if I homeschool? Or will I have to do the Special Ed myself? It isn't a major disability, he has a speech problem, the school seems to think he has a problem with numbers as well, but I don't see it, he can memorize phone numbers and count Monopoly money with no problem, I just think he is bored in regular school, because they don't make it fun for him. Any help appreciated, thanx so much!

My special needs dd is 4, so she's not being homeschooled formally yet, but it's my understanding that they still get services if they have a diagnosis per thier IEP. My daughter isn't dx'd with learning disability, she has more physical disability and medical/health needs- she will get PT and OT through the school district and whatever help she will need should she be dx'd with a learning disability (not sure about yet).

I went to the Dept. of Ed today, and they said that I will still have access to the Special Ed dept. which is really good! My son seems really excited about homeschooling.
