Today was MUCH better than yesterday. I'm struggling with Reilly and her respect toward me - she's sounding like a teenager already sometimes! Yesterday was really hard and I felt like we were fighting ALL DAY, not just in school. But today has been a whole lot better! We got more accomplished with less drama, so that's a good thing!

How 'bout y'all?

We are having a good day. We got started earlier than yesterday, and the kids have done their work really quickly and without struggle. I'm just waiting for Madison to finish her English page...diagramming...so I can do their Science with them.
I'm glad that your day was better than yesterday!

So far it's been very similar to yesterday. We're being very laid back this week because dh is off work, but I do want us to get some work accomplished. Right now, we're getting ready to do a few projects: making a tricorn hat (history), fall leaf notebooking & drawing a tree (science), and then it's on to art.

We're having a much loooonger day than usual. We're still not done and it's almost 4! But that's because we started late to begin with then after only an hour, we stopped for lunch, a trip to the library for the 3yr old's story time, and then a trip to the grocery store. So my 2nd grader just finished now and my 5th grader is still working on Math.
I'm worn out and still have to cook dinner and straighten up the house.

Well, yesterday we were not in school. We take off when I am at "work" one day a week.

Today has been a bit more frustrating then yesterday. We even had to take a little break as the two of us (Xander and I) were getting very upset. I know he's young but it just breaks my heart when he says he can't do something. Especially stuff I know he can do because he's done it already. That frustrates me more than anything else.

Awww, maybe you could take a break and do something fun like an art or craft project. Or you can go and explore your backyard and teach on that? He is learning well. I know that we file things into our brains in a very intricate way. And sometimes even the things we should know get stuck or behind something else. What you can do is come at that "file" from a different angle. Find a different way to teach it so that he will refile this new lesson somewhere else. I promise it works. And hey, my 2nd grader still does stuff like forget simple things from time to time. It is normal. I know I am so guilty of it.

Heh... thanks for the encouagement. I'll probably do that next time instead of just stopping school altogether for the day. He loves it so much that he thinks it's a punishment if we stop. So maybe we'll do a craft project next time or go for a walk or something then come back to it.

I also remember last year not realizing that Eli needed play time. I know in my PS days we had recess and PE. It was great! I remember feeling free and it was a time to relax before the schoolwork began. They are so little and still need a break. But the break can be school, just a different not so mainstream way of schooling. Looking at the fall leaves and explaining why they fall off and looking at the veins of the leaf is a great thing.
