How come I was never taught that "Yankee Doodle" was a song to make fun of the Americans who didn't know how to fight and march like the English who came to help them in the French and Indian War? It was written by an English army doctor. I hated American history! Now, if they had made it real and showed me the funny parts I would have loved it! This doctor taught the Americans this song to help them keep the time when learning to march! Imagine the English when they lost to those same Americans in the American Revolution! I LOVE IT!

Again, when someone tells you that you can't teach your kids....tell them you can not only teach them....but teach them better! I love that my kids isn't trying to cram dates in his head or facts. We had fun today. He swam and bounced around and we went into deep convo on this subject today! What a homeschooling high!!!!!

Cool thing to learn! That is one thing I loved learning about during homeschool. I LOVE history because we made it fun. We did living history and studied the interesting things about the wars and not just dates. So much more boring that way and yet people wonder why no one remembers them.

I read a great book with all sorts of things like that in it called That's Not in My American History Book. I love the Yankee Doodle story, though. It's just another one of those situations where those being made fun of chose to make it their own rather than be offended.
