Ok...I was looking on a home school web site and it said that you should have a name for your school. It said some places give educator discounts which home school teachers are entitled to. Is this true? Any personal experience with this? How did you come up with the name of your school?

When we lived in Alabama there were a few local bookstores that gave discounts to homeschoolers. I went to one bookstore that claimed to, but when I showed my HSLDA card she said that the educator's discount was for "real" teachers.

Need I say that I left w/o buying the books!

You might call a few local bookstores and just ask if they offer a discount for homeschooling families. If they don't suggest it, and then get everyone you know to call and make the suggestion too! I don't think you necessarily need to have a name for your school. In a pinch, I would just use the name of our parish church plus the word "Academy".

We don't need to have a name for our school for any reason other than for fun. We call ourselves Camian Academy. CAM from Cameron and IAN from the letters in Ani. For discount cards we have just shown our county acknowledgement letter and the store gave us their educator discount card valid for the next year. We've done the discount at Borders and Barnes and Noble. I think Staples might have an educators discount as well.

I mainly want a name for fun too. Mainly for when Eathan is asked where he goes to school, he can tell them something rather than I don't go to school. Oh and of course for my blog whenever I start one.

This has come up so much recently! Everyone keeps asking us what we are going to name our school. I wasn't planning on a name, but maybe just for fun I will?? hmmm....

Our name is LifeSource. Nothing behind it. It just popped in my head and that's what I used.

As for discounts: http://www.homeschoolingonashoestring.com/...ordiscount.html

Also, I had ID cards made for me and the kids to prove we're homeschooled and to help get discounts: https://www.fullidentity.com/
They came out GREAT and they look so professional.
