So, today the kids and I were at dinner and we were all talking about what our kids names would have been if they had been the opposite sex....

Well....

It came to me....

And I said Eli would have been, Gwendolyn Rose. I had adored that name and was so excited to use it. I loved it.

Remy would have been Willa Rose. I ADORE that name too!

When my friend looks at me and says well then you can't have a girl because those names are horrible!

I was shocked. I just looked at her and said why? Matt and I love those names.

It really hurt my feelings. I don't tell her that I wouldn't have ever given my kids the name she named her kid!

How mean is that? And what is it to her?

Why do people do that?

How rude! FWIW I think those are fine names, but then I gave my daughter the name Anastasia with the Russian pronunciation and gave my baby the name Frederick and call him Fritz which some people insist on telling me is a DOG'S name! I get a LOT of negative comments about Anastasia and people say thank goodness I call her a "normal" name like Ani (though some have issue in the spelling since it is said just like Annie - but it's spelled that way because it's a nickname and the spelling is based off her actual name). Even though Frederick is a nice old-fashioned name I get a lot of comments about how babies don't have that name because it's an old man's name. Well, then, how do old men end up with it? I don't think they are changing their names when they get old. Sorry. Little mini-vent there myself. Honestly, if someone doesn't like a name you've picked they should just keep their mouth shut! I'd never tell someone their kid had a dog's name! How weird is that?!?!

Try telling people you are going to name your kid Talen Drake, or Thorne Reagan. Esp, when they are rooting for William, Paul, or James. LOL We have never gotten the best reactions over our name choices. I am kind of glad we never decided on Thorne's name prior to his birth. They didn't find out until he was a day old. Boy did we throw them for a loop. I think Thorne was confusing but then to hear we named him after good old "Ronnie" too. Oi Vey! LOL Don't sweat it though. It is your child and the names will grow on everyone around eventually.

I love those names. I have one named Gwen already and for this one Willa is at the top of my very short list of girl's names!

You just can't take it personally. There are so many people who don't like the names of my kids and it doesn't make a shred of difference to me. You know in your heart what the right names for your children are because you're their mom. Nobody else can possibly know. So just ignore her comments and name your girls whatever you want.

You know, there's always a polite way to say that you wouldn't choose those names and this person obviously didn't find it! I doubt very seriously that many of us would choose the same names for our kids as everyone else, but it doesn't mean we have to be rude about other people's choices!!!

Me, no, I wouldn't choose those names for a girl, but then again, I don't think we've had a girl yet because we never CAN choose a girl's name!! So you're one step ahead of us! And hey, while we're at it, I obviously wouldn't choose your boys names either, but it doesn't mean I don't LOVE their names . To judge someone else's choice as "horrble" is just...well, RUDE.

No one can win it's eather to common or to out there. Everyone HATED Miguel's name on myside of the family. They told me he'd never get a chance at a good job because of discrimination.
