Has anyone watched the full interview. He embarrassed the interviewer, with reason. My dh and I died laughing. They still cut some from this clip but watch until the end. If she hadn't mispronounced the word I would have even spelled it right. http://www.ifilm.com/video/2862093

We had a thread on this a couple of weeks ago now I think it was. The poor kid probably has aspergurs(sp?) and the comments left about him by supposed adults is disgusting.

I read that post, and only ran across this clip bc I was discussing it with Tim. He hadn't seen it so I pulled on up. I didn't even look to see if there were any "comments" on this site bc I didn't car about that. I just wanted Tim to watch the interview. My whole point is the kid is really absolutely smart. The reporter sounded like an idiot in the end. I agree the kid probably has Aspergers or something similar, but he is a very astute young man. His social skills are the only thing lacking and school would in no way help that.

Yeah, I don't think whatever he has wrong with him could be fixed with school. The way he held his arm at one point made me think he had something...and you know what? If he does, double kudos to him b/c he beat out over 200 other kids who likely didn't have something...more power to homeschooling! AND I saw another clip someone posted where he said spelling wasn't his most strong point- math was, or something like that. So, just imagine if spelling HAD been his very best subject! Watch out!

I think the reporter had something against him from the get-go when she mispronounced his last name and he called her on it. In the Jimmy Kimmel clip (at the bottom of the page of the link that is on the other thread) he said he sees mathematical patterns in everyday things like the top of a desk and math is his big subject. While practicing spelling words at home he would juggle to have something to concentrate on. The kid is just plain brilliant and if he were in public school he'd be just as much a nerd and lacking certain social skills and instead of being in a nurturing environment he'd be teased mercilessly and either end up depressed and suicidal or try to pretend to be something he's not (like, say, not so smart). Yeah. Public school sounds SOOO much better than homeschooling there. He actually beat out several thousand kids. You have to count all the ones at local spelling bees who didn't make it to the national bee.

I guess I just didn't watch the whole clip in the first post then. And I didn't watch the Jimmy Kimmel one. I was just amazed she mispronounced th word, and didn't have the words origin. 2 key factors in spelling a word correctly.
