We went and signed up for the summer reading thing at our library. Sign-ups started Monday. We'll be going back to the library on Friday and I have every intention of turning in the completed logs then. Ani's already read 5 books and is reading the sixth. I read one book to Cameron before he went to sleep. The lady filling out the forms for registering the kids asked what grade they were going to be in in the fall and I just gave her a blank look and said "We homeschool." She wrote down second for Ani and first for Cameron based on their ages. I figured it really truly didn't matter and I felt like being thick headed at the time. Their prize for reading 15 books will be a book of coupons.

I like the way our library's program is set up. Rather than setting a goal of a specific number of books, the kids earn a point for every book they read. Certain types of books (Michigan history, for example) are worth two points. They can also earn points by doing extra little research projects. One of those is a list of books and they are supposed to use the online catalog to find the authors. The goal is simply to get as many points as you can.

Scotty has 21 books and we just checked out 15 more today. There is no cap or number - you just write down what you read and the kids win a prize at the end of the summer. I am not even sure what the prize is - probably not much. Bryce is getting into reading now since he has something to work for. Good thing, too. He is not a wonderful reader and this will give him more practice.

Cameron's log is done. I remembered that the library closes early on Fridays so we might not turn them in tomorrow. Jamie may take the kids on Saturday (I'll be at a scrapbook convention with my parents all day), but I'm not sure if he will since he'll have all three. If not we'll go Monday or Wednesday to turn them in
