I will be teaching 3 classes at our coop when we start back. I want to start getting them planned out and figured I could probably get some good ideas here. The session will last for 8 weeks (meeting once a week). The class is 45 minutes each time. I will be teaching the following:

1) A class based on FIAR for kindergarten age.
2) It's a Bug's Life!! - 3rd - 6th grades
3) World Issues - jr/sr high

The first one is pretty basic but I am open to any ideas or suggestions for the other two. The World Issues is going to include some debate, current events, newsreporting/jounaling, that sort of stuff based on issues such as immigration, war, greenhouse effect/recycling/ global warming....so on.

So, send me your ideas!!
Thanks!

Since the third one is world issues, maybe pick a different part of the world for each session to focus on. Something in Africa one time, Europe another, etc.

Good morning. Well it is for me! Lol I just realized you havn't put down a book for the first one. Bit hard to give ideas without a book.
A Bugs Life sounds fun, all those insects. I'm asuming you will have quite a few kids? Could you do something involving two teams. Ants and Grasshoppers but make it so the kids have to discover which team they are on from some clues. Maybe when they come hand them a small gift bag with there clues and send them over to reserch tables with some books. Probably just use fact clues from one species of ant and grasshopper.

The world issues class should be easy for you... the kids should be old enough to do their own research and bring in articles, prepare for debates, etc. I loved debating in high school, and I would say the more time devoted to student discussion, the better! Then your role could be more one of moderator rather than lecturing, and that will cut down your prep time. (IOW, make them teach the class for each other while you sit there and enjoy it... sneaky...)

LOL...yes, I know I am crazy but all 3 will be running togethers. We have 3 periods each coop day so I will teach each period.

Jennifer, that is kinda what my plan is going to be for the World Issues too! <w>
