I don't know how true any of this is...just thought I would pass it along. It doesn't seem impossible with the world we live in today!

Well, legend or not, it is a known fact that the ball pit is nasty. If you notice, most of the McDonalds and other places have gotten rid of the ball pits. The places that do have them are required to have a cleaning schedule. One place here loads them up in the back of a truck and runs them through a car wash.
At any rate, I'm not crazy about them. However, I am NOT one of those moms who refuse to let their children play in them.
Thanks for passing that on.

Sorry to post it...It is false. A friend of mine found it on snopes.com a little while ago and let me know. (thank God it is not true) However, in this world we live in today, ANYTHING is possible.

My first thought after yikes!! was if a ball pit was so dirty as to have vomit and poop in it wouldn't you smell it or see that at least some of the balls on top looked dirty? The only ball pit my kids have used is at a Scallywags play centre were you pay to go in and it has always looked very clean. I will be sure to inspect any ball pit after this though!

It's an urban legend, but those ball pits are still gross and teeming with germs and probably really do have urine at least if not feces in there because of leaky diapers and such.

I was creeped out by ball pits even as a kid. We never go anyplace with an indoor playground anymore. Last time we did was at a McD's when we were out of time. They are so smelly!

They are gross, this is NOT an urban legend though. Happened to a co-worker of my SIL's. He was playing in a Jungle Gym's or whatever inside playground. He scraped his arm on a slide, got a flesh eating bacteria. It ate quite a few of his organs and he was in the hospital a long time. It got passed to a woman who had a baby in the same hospital. She lost all of her limbs and a few organs, after having her 3 baby, was never able to hold her baby and her life is now forever compromised. Yeah, they are not the safest places or most sanitary for kids to play in.

I actually read this years ago, but true or not, I just don't like ball pits. Aside from just not knowing what's under all those balls, I worry about kids getting stuck under them. That would freak my kids right out! I really don't even know of any place around here that has ball pits anymore. All the fast food places have gone to those climbing/slide things.
