I tried a couple of times to leave a comment on your blog but it flagged me as spam .

I was trying to comment on your latest blog post and just basically said that I thought you should go for it in regards to teaching your son to read. He certainly sounds both ready and motivated! Honestly, once they recognize the letters and know the sounds there really isn't much "teaching" that needs to be done. Some simple readers along with an explanation of blending (a little help from LeapFrog's Word Factory won't hurt) and it sounds like he'll be on his way all by himself! Practicing with simple CVC and some sight words should keep him busy for the rest of the summer allowing you to get the things done you need to get done while fulfilling his drive to learn to read (and it's a great first step towards independent learning ).

Anyway, that's all..I had tried a couple of times on your blog and decided to just post it here!

Bumping this up for you in case she missed it. HSJ blogs seem to flag a lot of posts as spam since the move. I think they are still getting the settings back to where they were before. I totally agree with Jenn that you should go for trying to teach him to read. If he resists, back off. If he takes right to it, all the better!

Well he keeps begging me and I've been holding back. I just want to rest but he begs me just about everyday! I have some readers and he already knows all the colors as sight words. He's well on his way already. I just can't keep up! Thanks for the comment! I think I will just go with it since he seems to be ready at this point and we'll see how he reacts!
