I signed Matthew up for two elective classes at the local public school. We live about 1 block from the local Junior High, so I figured, why not? Anyway, I signed Matthew up for Woodworking and Architecture. Two things that he has interest in and I have ZERO interest in teaching or learning about. I just want him to stop bugging me about these things and I noticed the school has those electives, so he can have an actual teacher help him and share his interest, and I can share some interest without feeling like I am obligated to help him with something that i preceive as difficult for me to know how to do.

The classes are back/back, from 8-10am, everyday. That will give Evan and I some quiet time, and still leave Matthew with plenty of time to do his home school work. We are doing (at home), clay modeling, math, spanish, history, chemistry, direction following(he especially needs this because of his ADHD characteristics), cooking (the evening meal once a week), religion, and english (grammar, spelling and reading).

So, he has a pretty full schedule, but it will keep him from being bored. He also has Pathfinders (like boy scouts) once a week as an after school activity, periodic activities with our home school group, homeschool field trips, and possibly tennis after school at the local school.

Sounds good. Here we can only put our kids in public school classes in high school and only for "core" classes. Those are the classes I'd be LEAST likely to put them in! It's the electives - like the woodworking your son is taking - that I'd want access to.

Oh cool, is he excited to start? Doesn't sound like he's got time to be bored with that schedule!

He is really looking forward to it. He knows some kids from the school already, so that should make it easier as well. I think one of his friends is in one of the same classes with him.
