My heart just broke for them yesterday. Some of you may remember when we lost our sweet little puppy some months ago. Well, the boys have been asking almost every day since it happened when we could get a new pet, but we've been putting it off. About a week ago, a little blue heeler puppy showed up at my sister's house, no collar or anything. They asked if we wanted him, but we said no. Friday, dh saw him and saw how the boys just loved him to pieces! He totally caved and we brought him home. The boys were so happy and excited about their new puppy. My sister's family had been calling him Buster, so we kept that name for him. The very next day, we had soccer clinic and the boys didn't want to leave Buster home by himself so we took him with us. I no sooner put him on the leash and brought him out to the soccer field with me when another mom came up and said he was their puppy that they lost A WEEK AGO! (She was VERY nice about it.) She has 2 kids (5 & 3) who have been just devestated about losing their puppy. I remember that devestation all too well. So, I told her that if he's their's then the right thing would be for us to give him back. As soon as I said it, Justin broke down. He was the only one with me at the time. Well, it broke her heart so she said we could keep him since her kids didn't know the difference. About that time, her little boy came up and saw the puppy. When she said we could keep him, he broke down. So now we've got 2 little boys bawling their eyes out and 2 moms trying to convince her kid that it's the right thing to let the other have the puppy. Finally, her little boy said that we could keep him, but I could see in his eyes that he didn't want to let him go. They walked away, and I sat & talked to Justin. I finally convinced him that he wasn't ours to keep and that we needed to let him go home to his family. I called & talked to dh, too, and he agreed with me. By the end of soccer clinic I convinced her to take their puppy back. I had to explain to Jack & Jared what had happened. Oh my gosh, they were heartbroken! They wanted to tell him bye and give him one last petting before he left us. It was so sad! Needless to say, they were upset & moped around (and cried off & on) the rest of the day.

On the bright side, dh said that he might have to bring a dog home today. He's such a softie. Apparantly he retold the whole story to his buddies at work and one of them has a 7 month old rat terrier (like the one we used to have) that he's wanting to find a home for. I think dh is going to go by his house after work today and bring it home. The boys don't know, so it'll be a great surprise! I just hated seeing them so upset yesterday.

Poor boys. How hard for all the kids involved. That was so nice of her son to say you could keep the dog even though he didn't want to let him go. I hope you guys love your new puppy!

Um, we didn't keep him.

I talked to dh about it and we agreed that it was the right thing to do to return him to his first family.

Ok, just realized ya'll were probably talking about this part. LOL Well, we didn't get this one either. I asked dh about it when he got home. Turns out that his friend's son was in a pretty bad wreck last night and is in the hospital with a busted vertebrae! They're saying they may need to transfer him to a bigger hospital to have surgery. Dh didn't want to bother them about a dog with their son in the hospital! I can totally understand that!

Jenn! Yes, I was referring to the new pup.

I'm sorry it didn't work out. Looks like you guys will be on a doggie hunt.

I swear sometimes I am SO dense! I'm sure we'll be getting a new pup sometime in the near future. Dh is on a mission! He just can't stand to see the boys upset.

As strange as it sounds, we don't even have a pound around here! I have no idea where the closest one is either.

What about an animal protection society? We have the RSPCA over here, they rescue and seize animals and once they are well, vaccinated etc they sell to the public cheaply.

Yeah, we were talking about the new dog lol I hope your husband's friend's son is okay. That's really scary. I was going to suggest the pound, too. Have you tried doing a google search to see if you can find one in your area? Or maybe call your county government office? I'm sure there's one somewhere around here, but I'd have no idea where. The one near my parents is in the middle of nowhere and you'd never know it was there unless you already knew the little dirt road to take (we got a cat from there once when I was 8 or 9 and I thought my mom had lost her mind turning onto that road).

Or you could look for an animal rescue. I know there are different ones around for different breeds of dogs, but I don't know where or how to get in touch with them. Again maybe try a google search.

Well, we'll either go ahead and get the one from dh's friend when things settle down for them or we'll get one from dh's cousin (who we got our last dog from) the next time we see him.
