Ok this is very last minute, because as per usual I am flying by the seat of my pants. We are starting a little unit on Japan this morning, (lol like in 45 minutes) and I changed my mind on the craft. origanly we were to do a Kimino but decided as the book 'A pair Of Red Clogs" opens with the clogs that we should try making a small pair for a large teddy bear to wear. I have cardboard and thought I could use shinny pipcleaners for the thongs, but what about those two pieces underneath??
Don't supose anyone has a handy template of a clog..?? lol not that I really need one it's basicaly an oval, but I like templates.

Ok so I have thought of those tiny wooden colourd matchsticks, we could glue maybe 4 together..? or I could cut up a plastic straw..?? http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...UNA:en%26sa%3DG wow sorry for that huge link, theres a picture. see how they have those two pieces underneath, thats what I am wondering how to make using craft items.

You could glue a stack of tongue depressors (craft Sticks) to the bottom.

Well it all went pretty well. These clogs are only about 3 inches long so the popsickle sticks are too long unless I did a lot of cutting. I found a stiff straw so I will probably cut and use that.
Sarah of course wanted clogs made for her favorite toy dog so I cut out 4 shapes which she colourd then I used some shinny pipcleaners as the thongs. Then I Ended up using 2 bases for each clog as it really needed to have a piece glued under the clog where those pipecleaner ends were. Those are drying, then I will glue on the starw pieces as the teeth or 'Hu' I discoverd they are called. She is now using masking tape to hold laminated clog cards onto her array of stuffed toys lol.

We'll have to do some for the Build-a-Bears we got this summer when we do Japan. Do you have pictures of the ones that you did?

I was planning on doing a photo. I think if you want them to be really good you would need to use craft wood and ribbon for the thong part, or at least use something better then a cut straw for the teeth. Tomorow I thought I would try stuffing the end of the straws with a bit of bluetac and painting, although I don't know if paint will stick to plastic straws. If that wont stick I thought a bit of brown paper wraped and glued might be ok. lol Sarah isn't of an age yet to be fussy over stuff like that, only me!
