Here in Québec, since homeschool is very unknown, almost only religious family homeschool.

So I'm asking you : Are you religious? And is that the reason why you homeschool?

I am Christian but no that is not why I homeschool. My dh is a non-Christian and he is the one who brought homeschooling up when I was pg with our first child. I think being a Christian there are many religious advantages to me homeschooling my children but it isn't one of the main reasons I chose to do it. And for DH it obviously didn't really factor in there at all.

We are religious but it is not why we homeschool.

We are Christian, and although it is a factor, it is not the sole reason we homeschool.

As we talk about it, I don't really understand how religion can be a reason to homeschool...
Many baptist homeschool in quebec.. But we don't know why. (that's a bi why I've ask the question..)
Does the religion ask for it?
Or it is more to "kinda control" what is taught to the kids? ..

We're christians, and although we do include Bible study in with our lessons, it's not our reason for homeschooling.

My dad's a minister, but my parents chose to homeschool me for academic reasons rather than religious ones. (At five I was working at a grade two level, and the schools in the area were not prepared to deal with an advanced five year old.) Since then, they have also seen many religious benefits, but they continued homeschooling for the academic more than the religious benefits.

I think most people who say they homeschool for religious reasons is to make sure what the kids are taught is in line with their religious beliefs (such as no evolution or whatever). Some religions DO request that their members homeschool. When I was in first grade all the local Jehovah's Witnesses were pulled out of school to be educated at home. One of my friends was one of them. From what I understand, though, that is not a nationwide policy but instead something that the local ones requested.

We're Christian, but that's now why we homeschool, well not completely anyway. It's just one of the factors.

We are Christian. It is not the main reason why I choose to homeschool, but is up there with my top 5 reasons yes. I chose to homeschool after seeing how great it was and just wanted the same for my own family.

It comes into play a number of ways. Some Christians feel God has led them to homeschool, that that is the path he wants them to take.
Other religious people have a huge bone of contention with what the schools are teaching as it goes directly against there faith. They know the can not police every lesson or book their child might read. Also they may not want to be known as "That difficult parent" Or have there child feel like he is missing out on some festivities such as your Halloween, or at Easter or Christmas when most of the other kids are having fun. Homeschooling is simply easier then doing all that. This is not only Christians though as I know of some pagan and Hindu homeschoolers on other boards who strongly disagree with the ps curriculum/festivities.

Don't worry!
I may be pagan and most of you Christian, we still have a big point in common : the desire to teach what's best to our kids!

We are Christian, and that did factor into our decision to homeschool, but it definitely wasn't the only deciding factor.

Yup, I am religious too. And that is not our main reason for homeschooling at all.

I am actually a member of a Baptist church. We have a huge homeschooling community but most of us just don't want our kids in the public school system. Has nothing to do with our denomination, or religious requirements.

I'm Agnostic and religion did have a part (not much) to play in it, as the school system has to deal with seperation of church and state but not in the way you'd think. It's because religion has a lot to do with history.
