Did anyone else see this? http://us.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/01/23/hib.va....cdc/index.html I'm so glad that I came to my senses and started getting my son his vaccines (we delayed for a year for quite a few legitimate reasons). I don't understand why more people don't wake up and realize that these diseases can and do KILL children. It makes me sick to think of this poor 7 month old who died just because his parents were worried about what the vax could do to him. Why not consider what the DISEASE could do? If he was vaxed, he could be alive today. I do feel very sorry for these parents and their loss, but I hope this causes some people to understand that there are real consequences that can arise from not vaccinating.
I'm so p***ed about it, mostly because it's preventable! I've been reading what they're saying on anti-vax boards and most of the comments are "Yes, well, he could've gotten the strain that the vax didn't prevent against," but what if he did? The fact is, he could've been alive today if he had gotten the vaccine, but he's not because of these people who preach endlessly about how terrible vaccines are and "Big Pharma". I listen to Pediacast, it's a podcast that's done by a pediatrician and in one episode, he calls people who are adamantly anti-vax and vocal about it "parental terrorists". When I first heard that, I thought it was kind of offensive, but now after a child has DIED over this silliness, I have to say I agree 100%. I was one of those parents who was trapped in the to vax or not to vax conundrum mostly because of the very vocal vax haters and it was driving me crazy until I just quit listening to that crap and vaccinated my son, and I feel so much better for having done it. He only has 5 so far, but I'll be keeping up with them until he's fully vaccinated. These people, most of whom aren't even doctors, say, "Don't vaccinate! Vaccines are dangerous and will kill your child or, worse, give him autism! Now, buy my book!" It seems like every anti-vax spokesperson out there has a book. Anyone ever notice that? Sorry for the rant, but the more I think about this, the madder I get.
And I'd really like to see a private subform here as well![/b]
I was kind of thinking that too.
And I agree... it IS ridiculous that people listen to all the hype and not the medical and scientific professionals who study this stuff for a living. I have some other stuff to say on the topic, but I'll hold off and see if we get a private forum first.
