How informed do you think you are on vaccines?

My 3yr old son Landan died 23hrs after being diagnosed with Meningococcal Meningitis. It is a potentially vaccine preventable disease. The vaccine isn't on the schedule until 11-12yrs but is approved for use at age 2yrs. Our second son received the vaccine in December 2010 when he was 2yrs old. My son & thousands of other children prove that a vaccine is needed at a younger age.

I think I'm very informed on vaccinations. How safe they are, necessary to prevent disease, ect.

I hate admitting it, but when I originally chose to vaccinate my children I wasn't as informed as I should have been. I felt it was ok and I knew that some people chose not to do it, so I did make an informed decision. But, I definitely know more now than I did before. Working in an Immunization program has given me that knowledge, though. It's not a subject I always readily sought out to learn more about.

With my first two kids, not very. I vaccinated because that was what good parents did. I didn't question that until autism was brought up in regards to my younger son and I started hearing the theories about thimerasol etc. Then I wanted to be more informed.
Now, I would say so-so. I have read a lot, but specific to my concerns. I am certainly no where near an expert - but I trust the doctors I take my children to, and don't subscribe to any conspiracy theories so I don't feel I need to know EVERYTHING. I am always interested in learning more, and being informed about what I am giving my kids and why, but I don't feel like anything is being put over me if I am not an expert on it, kwim?
